I had the pleasure of writing a foreword to Geoffrey Newton’s first book. I don’t suppose that it did anything for it, apart from filling what might otherwise have been a blank page; but at least, what I wrote served to introduce Geoffrey to what turned out to be a great many readers.
Geoffrey must have thought it worth while, for he has paid me the compliment of asking me to do the same for this, his second book; and I do so with pleasure, again.
Geoffrey is a bright and personable young man who is making a great success of the business of entertaining children. I was never much good with kids myself; the truth was that I was inwardly terrified of the little blighters; I would rather face a tough, sophisticated adult audience any day. And after one particularly disastrous experience I swore that I would never again undertake a children’s show; and I haven’t.
I now realize that if this book had been available to me in my younger days, things might have been different. It’s a first—rate textbook for any young magician who is thinking of launching out as a children’s entertainer; and it is a profitable and worthwhile field, in which engagements are plentiful and fees rewarding.
Geoffrey knows his stuff, and he has the priceless gift of enthusiasm which he is able to communicate to his readers.
I recommend them to read this book over and over again, and get themselves thinking along the same lines; their work will benefit, that’s for sure.
